What is a Story Trail? A Storybook Trail is a fun, educational activity that places the pages from a children’s story along a trail in a community. It is for children of all levels to enjoy the outdoors and read a book with their family and friends.
The children’s book featured on the campus of Historic Onancock School is a delightful tale, “The Boy Who Tricked the Wind.” A collaboration of local talent, authored by Haydon Rochester and illustrated by talented artist, April Flory.
The story line: Ignoring his father’s warning, a young boy paddles out to sea in his small boat. The wind blows him far away from home to a strange island where he has only animals for company and berries to eat. But by carefully observing how birds fly and using his own ingenuity and patience, he makes a wonderful discovery that brings him safely home again.
