Spring 2022 series of 'Conversations'

FREE

We invite you to join us for these four evenings:

  • Thurs, May 5: Working as a Waterman (rescheduled from March)

  • Speakers: Reba and Devin Smith

  • Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Location: in the Gallery at Historic Onancock School

Moderator: Ryan Webb, an Eastern Shore native and the library specialist at Eastern Shore Community College

Videographer: Brian Kaiser, BKK Communications

Following the dialogue, there will be a Q & A and social time.

Origins

In mid 2019 we had an idea. Historic Onancock School wanted to launch a series of conversations to share the proud generational history of Virginia's Eastern Shore through engaging oral history presentations to enjoy, learn and preserve stories and legends that are part of the culture of our community.

Onancock Business & Civic Association (OBCA) supported our idea with funding to proceed. Fast forward past a pandemic, 2021 brought another opportunity from Virginia Humanities Sharp Grant to make this a reality.

This first series will focus on several professions that are vital to the Eastern Shore. Farming, Watermen, Education and Small family business all integral to the backbone of shore history.
